Food & Beaches
A restaurant with homemade Portuguese food, also has a take away service , Adega do David ,just in the end of the street, on the same road another typical and busy Portuguese restaurant Panela Velha ,after a good food why not just pop in just next door Elite Bar for a cocktail or two and good atmosphere .
The old town with small cobblestone streets is lively. The beach has great restaurants overlooking the ocean for an English breakfast, fresh seafood. Very affordable, a short walk down the hill.
If you have a car ,I can advise some of my favorite beaches and all are at a short drive:
Heading west, Praia (Beach) Evaristo, is a small beach with an upscale restaurant and perfect spot to catch the sunset with a bottle of Vinho Verde (Slightly Sparkling semi sweet/dry Portuguese wine).
Praia da Gale, Villa Joya boasts a restaurant with 2 Michelin Stars to reserve for dinner two weeks in advance. My favorite spot the Chiringuito bar is reopening on a cliff overlooking the sea and their full moon parties are back. This beach bar never closes it is open 24hrs. Its hidden and you must find the hidden path along the cliff to get there.
A little further west Salgados beach , sand dunes and a virgin stretch of beach where nudity is permitted but not abundant, so if you see a little too much don’t be surprised. Great for run in the morning or sunset, midday if you can handle the heat.
All within 15-minute drive.
Keep heading west to Praia da Marinha just west Porches a spectacular beach at the bottom of a cliff with a cool little beach hut snack bar. Jose Mourinho has a resort nearby .
A little further west and you come to Lagos and Dona Anna beach. Hire a boat and discover hidden beaches and spectaculars caves .
A little further west and you will arrive at Sagres and Tonel beach which are great for surfing. Rent a board on the way to town. Visit Prince Henry the navigators famous military sailing school where Christopher Columbus attended. Catch the sunset at the end of the world where the cliffs drives you straight into the ocean at Europe’s southwestern tip and the most powerful lighthouse in Europe.
88km away about an hour drive.
Praia da Oura is a small beach surrounded by restaurants, hotels and night clubs. Oura has the best nightclub in the Algarve (on the road to Praia da Oura) Capitulo IV.
Next up Falesia beach. Stunning red clay cliffs with Umbrella pines at the top, a virgin beach that ends at the Villa Moura Marina. Pine cliffs hotel and golf course .
Counting west, Villa Moura and upscale planned neighborhood, Christiano Ronaldo has summer home there. There are no beaches but there is a marina, Casino and golf courses. Lick (old name Kadok)Disco sits at the entrance to Villa Moura an 8000 people capability complex that only open in summer. The nightclub at the casino, BlackJack, has a good Ladies night every Thursday throughout the year.
A little more west Val do Lobo beach. This is the Beverly Hills of Portugal and has the most expensive real estate in the country. It boasts a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course, Monte Rei, which is pricey and among the best courses in Europe.
Heading west we hit Faro and the Islands. Take a boat trip to Ilha do Armona ,ilha do Farol ,ilha da Culatra, Ilhas Desertas and Ilha do Farol, all this Islands are a paradise in Hearth , Its feels like you are somewhere completely different ,lost on an island away from everyone.
30km away Tavira city famous for his Salt production and a beautiful History , it has access by boat to the beautiful Tavira Island , another paradise to explore , you can rent a small house for holidays on this Island.
200 km away Keep heading East and you will hit Seville, Spain .The most cliché Spanish town. With its orange trees, Sevilanna (Flamenco), Tapas, sweet Jerez wine (Sherry), Siesta it’s the hottest place in Europe, unbelievable in the afternoon +55Celsius
All the highways are in excellent condition and it is a pleasure to drive along the coast or on winding country roads. Up to Serra Monchique (Mountains and Hot springs) , or into the Alentejo region and their world renowned wineries, or up the Vincentine Coast Nature reserve and its virgin Sagres or if you are an expert then they usually have good waves or up the Vincentine coast to Arifana beach just south of Alijzur.
